Great points Radhika and great to have that perspective as well. You are right, not everyone waits because of money. Some people, like you say, just don't meet the right person until later in life. I have heard a lot of people saying that they want to wait because they don't think they have enough money to have kids, and my point is, you don't necessarily need to wait for that reason.

Hi Vincent..just a quick note...people are not actually waiting to be Donald Trump to have a kid - many of us don't meet the right person at a scheduled time in our lives. Living in the west, I too imbibed western values of individualism and individual success - the net result was so much loneliness that I was considering moving back to India for good when I met my husband Mike. So the societal problem is really about excessive individualism and excessive significance of the sexual role of men and women rather than nurturing roles - how attractive is it to look and behave like you are 20 when you are 40 anyway? I would have loved to have met Mike at 31 rather than 38 but there was no choice in that matter unfortunately. I didn't like the idea of being a single mother and that perhaps did delay parenting for me. As a single Indian woman, it was also hard for me to convince adoption agencies in India - believe me, I looked at that option as well!

[...] A few months ago, I jammed about how to reduce the cost of kids. In particular, I jammed about how you can easily have a baby without breaking the bank, with a focus on the first six months of the baby’s life. You can read about it here. [...]
