Hi Paula, thanks very much for your comment and kind words (and key words!). FIRST is a very good keyword, I'll have to try that one out!

My most successful keyword was "FIRST", as in "FIRST, eat dinner and then play" or "FIRST, brush teeth and then book". To this day, he trusts that the word FIRST means he has to do something before he can have what he wants. The KEY to the keyword is the follow-through ... I never used it unless I fully intended that he could have the "second".

Really enjoying browsing your blog and now adding you to my blogroll!

Thanks Ben for the comment and the link! Glad to hear that you use this and it works for you too. Yesterday I just came up with a new one for brushing his teeth -- "Aaahhhh" as soon as he hears it, he opens up his mouth and lets me brush his pearly whites!

This really does work; it's been a godsend for awhile now with my 2 young ones. If you don't already think this way than it's definitely worth it... Nice article! -B

By the way, we linked it up over on TheFatherLife: http://thefatherlife.com/testnewsite/2008/10/31/friday-round-up-alltop-education-ugly-sons-at-home-dads/
